A Word Found Me
Many enter the new year and choose a word that speaks to them, that holds promises for the new year, or represents something they want to accomplish. There are a ton of other reasons they chose their word. This year I thought about choosing a word, but one just didn’t come to mind easily, until . . . A word found me. I started seeing a thread. First, I have tea very often throughout the day and use my favorite sweetener. See below. When I ran out of one bottle, I started to put it on my shopping list, but realized I had an extra I had purchased. Then I…

Uncertainty – A Parallel in Art & Life
I’m not sure about you but these days I’m feeling more uncertain about some things than I ever have. Rising prices, friends and co-workers who have had sudden illnesses, grocery shortages, and more. Having gone through a serious illness before, things can change quickly from one day to the next. Things can be uncertain. I thought I’d share a few of my favorite thoughts and helpful hints when uncertainty might come your way. They help me. Stand on your faith. Read a devotional book or an encouraging story. Take a break from the news Go outside and take a walk in nature Create art Share a cup of coffee with…

Purpose – An Art Journal Spread
Recently I spent some time in my art journal and created this odd but fun spread with dinosaurs. The title that came to me was from a sticker and it says, ‘Found himself in a strange land.’ It just reminded me that sometimes I do find myself in odd places in my life but there is still purpose in those times and circumstances. Maybe those unusual challenging times stretch and grow us, or possibly they make us more grateful. Those strange times and events may be taking place so that we can help someone walk on this journey called life, or maybe in turn, they are encouraging us. I want…

The Walk – A Special Journey and Course
On The Walk of life it really does make a difference what paths we choose, what we take with us, what we leave behind, who we take with us, what we tell ourselves as we travel and more. I’ve been off for about three weeks with some foot surgery and my time is wrapping up before I head back to work. I haven’t fully recuperated but enough to go back to work. After healing for a couple weeks, I chose to go through Melody Ross’ course, ‘The Walk.’ I had gone through the videos before which are awesome but didn’t take the time to do the course work. It’s one…

The Strength in Scars
Scars . . . we all have them. Some are visible, some not. Some are emotional, burned onto our soul while others are there for the world to see. Some are scars we just see. Some we hide, some we can’t. No matter, scars are reminders of where we have been, what we’ve endured and how we’ve made it out with the choice to tell our story. It’s been not quite 3 1/2 years since I had a double mastectomy due to a breast cancer diagnosis. About a year after this major surgery and several surgeries after that, I endured some very deep emotional scars due to a tragedy that took place in our…

Being a Fanatic!
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about being a ‘fanatic!’ What’s a fanatic? fa·nat·ic fəˈnadik/ noun 1. a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, especially for an extreme religious or political cause. synonyms: zealot, dogmatist, devotee, adherent; adjective 1. filled with or expressing excessive zeal. I think really you can be a fanatic for anything. I was listening to a song on the radio called talking about not being ashamed for being ‘on fire’ about your faith. This is so true. While each of us have a choice, I can still be sold out. I have friends from all walks of life but I do want to be authentic to me…
