Figures and Faces Art Exhibit * Laguna Beach * July 5th

Emotion can be expressed both on the human face and body. I’m thrilled to be just one of the artists that is involved in the 2018 ‘Figure and Faces’ art exhibit Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, California. If you’re a local, I hope you have an opportunity to visit. Now is a wonderful time to visit Laguna Beach during the Arts Festival and especially during Laguna’s First Thursdays Art Walk. The Art Walk takes place once a month on the first Thursday of each month and it’s a  wonderful time to peruse galleries and shops throughout Laguna Beach. It’s a lovely time to enjoy some appetizers, drink and art.…

    Art and Summer Days

Some schools are already out for Summer break and others are wrapping up the academic year. Summer is here. I have the blessing of living in the beautiful O.C. 15 minutes from Laguna Beach and other cities that have an abundance of art galleries and artists. Each year I enjoy attending the Pageant of the Masters or the Sawdust Festival. The free trolleys around Laguna Beach allow you to get from one end of the beach city to the other end easily. Looking for Summer activities surrounding art? Looking for a date night or activity with the kids that aren’t going to cost you an arm and a leg? While the…

DIY Signs ~ A New Place in Town

Signs are a great way to convey love or a message of encouragement in your home. I’ve always loved taking something old and repurposing it such as the sign below in which was simply a rusted oval. I created something new when I added letters and a rose embellishment. As well, I love signs big and small throughout my home to communicate something special or serve as a reminder. See below just a few signs I have in my room. If you’re in Orange County, California, specifically Lake Forest, where I happen to live, and you enjoy DIY, you may want to check out Board and Brush Creative Studio. Before…

    IKEA Inspiration

As a family, we like to take a trip from time to time to IKEA.  Our daughter leaves to head off to Montana State University for college in just a couple of days.  IKEA has great dorm and design ideas.  We enjoyed our time as we strolled through the showcase floors and even purchased a couple of items for her dorm.  I’m going to miss our time together but it’s time for our baby bird to ‘fly.’ I’m always inspired when we go to IKEA and I thought I’d share a few photos that may inspire you as well! Enjoy!

‘We need a little Christmas . . . right this very minute’ . . . Yes!  The countdown is on and over at Paperless Post they are celebrating 100 Days to Christmas Countdown.  I was inspired by Christmas cards over at Paperless Post.  Feel free to check out their Christmas cards here as we prepare for the season.  So in tune with Christmas, we were chatting recently about Christmas traditions.  No, it’s not too early as I’ve been planning my Logan’s tradition (more to come) since August 1st per their request. Move Forward Despite Doubt

I want to take a moment to encourage you! Last year I was encouraged by a friend to participate in a fun journey called Sketchbook West.  Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach was hosting the event.  After such a time, we wrapped up our sketchbooks and were asked to submit larger pieces inspired by our books for an exhibit.  A jury would select pieces that would be housed for in the exhibit for the whole month.  I submitted two pieces and they were both chosen.  I actually didn’t feel extremely satisfied with the pieces and didn’t consider them the best work I had ever done, was a bit intimidated but I submitted nonetheless.…

    Up to Something Artsy

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  One I was fighting off that nasty winter cold, family was in town for the holidays, boat parades, birthdays (my daughter turned 17 and my niece 2), and lots of other activities in between. But I’ve also got some fun artsy news.  I had a friend reach out to me and ask if I was interested in participating in a project called Sketchbook West.  Las Laguna Art Gallery in Laguna Beach hosted this fun project in 2015.  In our sketchbook we’d sketch,  paint,  and create in our smallish book.  From there we took some of the inspiration from our books and created larger pieces.  CHosea…

    It’s a Crafting Holiday

Yes, for those who enjoy arts and crafts . . . this coming Saturday is like a national holiday.  Saturday represents the Superbowl of Crafting . . . National Scrapbook Day . . . always the first Saturday in May.  But some local stores and venues . . . festivities will even start the night before (Friday) and they go all throughout the weekend.  I’ll be spending Saturday with dear friends creating away but wanted to leave a little tutorial for you.  It’s a mixed media card I created using a finger painting technique to create clouds.  The card is simple, quick and could be used for an assortment of occasions. Here’s what I used and what…
