Move Forward Despite Doubt

I want to take a moment to encourage you!

Last year I was encouraged by a friend to participate in a fun journey called Sketchbook West.  Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach was hosting the event.  After such a time, we wrapped up our sketchbooks and were asked to submit larger pieces inspired by our books for an exhibit.  A jury would select pieces that would be housed for in the exhibit for the whole month.  I submitted two pieces and they were both chosen.  I actually didn’t feel extremely satisfied with the pieces and didn’t consider them the best work I had ever done, was a bit intimidated but I submitted nonetheless.

You see, sometimes when we put ourselves out there . . . when we do it despite the voices of doubt in our head . . . things can happen.  I am just hoping that the pieces might bring someone some joy and while I enjoyed the process, a friend said to me today . . . maybe you created them not for you but simply for another.  The finished product was specifically for another.

See below a few pictures from the Artist Reception last Thursday night at the gallery.  It was a lovely evening of meeting some of the other artists.  This exhibit included artists as far away as Croatia.

If you’re itching for something fun and relaxing to do and you’re a local . . . I encourage you to check out the gallery this month while the sketchbook exhibit is taking place.  The gallery is on PCH near the Wyland gallery and Cliff Restaurant.

I want to encourage you to try that thing you’ve been doubting you can do, stick out your neck and give it a go, move forward despite the doubtful thoughts that might come and lastly . . . watch what happens.  As my friend Melody Ross says, ‘She did it anyway.’  I want to encourage you to do the same friend!
