Pink Ribbon Pumpkins & Breast Cancer Awareness

Each day is a gift! It has been nine years next month that I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I’m so thankful that I am here today. HERE is the original post and initial thoughts when I was diagnosed. Possibly it could encourage another. I’m forever grateful for the love and support of of family, friends, co-workers, the artist community, and more. So humbled and so grateful.

Dear ones, can I please encourage you to make sure if it is time to get your annual check, you make that appointment or you do a self check. Men, encourage those ladies in your life, to get those checks.

Some of you are battling now. Please know that you have someone thinking and praying for you.

So I’ll be sharing a few gift ideas that you can easily create for those in your life that might need some loving encouragement on their journey.

Gel Press last year introduced the Ribbon Shaped Gel Plate. Not only can the ribbon be used to create for Breast Cancer Awareness, but any kind of awareness.

Below is a tutorial on how to create a pumpkin that will last longer than one Fall season. It’s an easy DIY that you can do as a family or individual and give as a gift. You’ll notice that I like the shabby chic look and imperfection (just like me and my body) are embraced. I hope you enjoy.

Supplies Needed:

The How To

  • Roll out some cream colored paint with a brayer on a 5 x 7 gel press plate.
  • Place the stencil on top of the paint on the plate, and roll the brayer over the stencil.
  • Before the paint has an opportunity to dry, place and press the gel plate around the pumpkin.
  • Continue to do this until you have a good coverage. Feel free to repeat with another color if you like. I added a little blue.
  • Fill in areas if necessary with a little paint by using a foam paint brush or brayer.
  • Next, using the Gel Press Ribbon plate, a stencil, and stipple brush, add white paint through the stencil. The stencil is one I love . . . like little daisies.
  • Once the flowers are dry, roll out pink paint with a brayer over the ribbon plate.
  • Lay the deli paper over the ribbon and roll a brayer over the top. Allow the paper to set for a while and make sure you rub it to allow the paint to adhere to the paper.
  • Gently remove the paper slowly.
  • Cut out the gel press ribbon print, and adhere the ribbon to the pumpkin with Mod Podge.

A reminder that this could be used for any awareness or cause.

Enjoy, year after year.
