Eileen Hull’s New Die Release Blog Hop

Can you believe we are talking about the holidays? Well, it is Christmas in July, and Eileen Hull’s new releases are great for cards or holiday projects.

Thanks for joining us for the Eileen Hull/Sizzix Chapter 3 Release Party Blog Hop! Check out the creative ways the Inspiration and Education teams have used the Mitten and Snowman dies! We hope that you will be inspired too and share how you use the dies in the Eileen Hull Fan Club. After leaving here, you can start at the beginning of the Blog Hop you can go HERE.

While both dies are fabulous and designed to be boxes, I saw the cute snowman die and thought decor. It’s a darling die and as a box could be used to hold sweets or even a gift card. I used the snowman box die as a decor piece and glued the decorated pieces on top of wooden napkin rings. You could tie them as well so guests could take them with. The snowman and snow angel is a unique and personalized way to adorn a holiday dinner table. Eileen’s die comes with some really cute pieces including hat and scarf choices, twig arms, eyes, and a carrot nose. Below I used the traditional scarf on Rod’s napkin ring and made a ‘snow angel’ for Abby. These little decor pieces could also be used on a card, as a tree ornament, or on a name or gift tag. I could also see really cute snowmen made of fabric and placed on a pillow. The possibilities are vast.

Here’s the how to;

  • Paint – Start by painting the snowmen with white gesso. Add a little grey paint to shadow. Cover the scarf, hat, eyes, arms and carrot nose with paint or acrylic spray. I used Dina Wakley’s acrylic gloss spray in carrot as well as Distress crayon for the twig arms. I also used a Distress marker (Black Soot) for the eyes.
  • Emboss a polka dot stamp for a snowman hat.
  • Spray some wings (these are vintage paper Dresden wings) with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide (Scattered Straw) and allow to dry. Then add Ranger’s Stickle Gel for a fun glittery effect.
  • Add embellishments such as pearl buttons or wire halo.
  • Make a banner using baker’s twine and stamped letters cut out with a punch to personalize.
  • Stamp swirls or other elements as desired. Draw a smile.
  • Attach to a wooden napkin ring with ribbon so the guest can take the decor piece home with them. If you’d like to make it more permanent, you can use hot glue and use them year after year.
  • Think of other possibilities where you could use these cute snowmen or angels on top of a gift, as a name tag, or whatever your creative heart desires.

Secondly, I turned the mitten box into a napkin holder. We keep a napkin holder stocked with paper napkins on a daily basis. It’s no different during the holidays and there are so many cute holiday napkins to choose from. Later, I reinforced the holder portion with some strong heavier cardstock inside to give it a little extra strength. It was an easy craft as I just turned the box portion into the holder. Why not make your napkin holder functional and cute?

But wait – there’s more – the Release Party continues! You won’t want to miss the Facebook Live at Eileen Hull Designs at 12:00 noon Eastern time on Wednesday, Jul 1! Join the chat – and a random commenter will will the Snowman die. We are so glad you joined us to celebrate the Chapter 3 release.
