Handmade Holidays Blog Hop 2014 – Gift for the Artist
I am thrilled once again to be a part of an incredible on-line event, the 4th Annual Handmade Holidays Blog Hop. Organized by Jennifer Priest from Hydrangea Hippo, with the assistance of others, it’s an inspiring event brimming with unique gift ideas for the Holidays. You don’t want to miss this line up of inspiration and artistic bliss. A few years ago we were looking online for handmade gift ideas and thought it would be great if there was a resource dedicated JUST to handmade gift ideas. Enter the Handmade Holidays hop! We’ve gathered over 100 of our creative blogger friends in the craft industry as well as some of our fellow product manufacturers to bring you a plethora of inspiring gift ideas you can make now to give to your friends, family, and colleagues. Pin and bookmark these ideas for this holiday season and to use throughout the year! Each day of the hop features approximately 30 gift projects and you can “hop” from one blog to another to check them all out. Welcome to Day One. I’m a part of the sharing on this Friday, but stay tuned for more today (see below) and then two more days of the ‘hop’ and loads more inspiration. Today, tomorrow and Sunday, November 7-9, we will be posting a new list of blogs to hop to. Each day different from the next and you’re sure to be inspired. I encourage you as well to share those blogs that inspire you social media. Today I want to share with you a gift idea focused on those artistic friends in your life. Maybe you’re crafty and artsy and have friends just the same. This is a perfect gift for those who are creatively like-minded. Possibly you’re not so crafty but looking for an idea for those friends in your life that are ultra creative . . . this is for you. The perfect gift for the artistically inclined, this traveling art journal kit is packed with creativity waiting to happen. I love angels! They are so beautiful and messengers of hope. So I created this project with the Hope of Christmas in mind! Without further ado . . . let’s jump in and get crafty! Here’s a ‘how to’ video. Remember if you want to play (‘create’) along, you can pause the video.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Altoid tin or tin of some sort. I used a large Altoid tin so I could gift more supplies. During the holidays the larger tins are more easily found
- Susan Lenart Kazmer’s Ice Resin
- Clearsnap embossing powders (Gold Sparkle and Copper)
- Clearsnap Smooch Spritz (Log Cabin and Gold Glow)
- Clearsnap Mix’d Media Inx Pad Chox (Sparrow)
- Clearsnap Designer Foil
- Clearsnap Design Adhesives
- Art Mechanique Molding Putty
- Embellishment you desire to cast
- Distressor or sandpaper
- Patterned Paper (Gin X)
- Mod Podge (Antique)
- Modeling paste
- My Favorite Things stencil (Starry Night)
- Washi tape
- Crepe Paper
- Scissors (Westcott is sponsoring this hop)
- Letters
- Plaid/Martha Stewart Acrylic paint (color putty)
- Misc. embellishments
Ideas for contents of traveling Art Journal kit:
- Watercolor crayons such as these . Some art stores sell them individually.
- Small pair of scissors (in this case I found a great pair of antique scissors that work wonderfully)
- Clearsnap Cat’s Eye Inkpad
- Aqua brush or paintbrush
- Clearsnap Smooch Spritz
- Mechanical Pencil
- Watercolor tubes (Sakura has some great ones here)
- Pens (black, white, brown)
- Washi Tape (my friends at Stampington carry a wide variety which can be found here)
- Glue stick
- Acrylic stamps are great to tuck in a box (you can find several great options in the dollar bin at craft stores)
- Scraps of paper
- Scraps of trim, sequins, small buttons, ephemera
- Mini alpha stamps (can usually be found in the dollar bin at craft stores)
- Mini stapler
- A mini journal. This is a sweet paperbag book I’ve had for a while. I purchased it from Jennifer Priest at Hydrangea Hippo. It fit perfectly and I had been wanting to use it. It’s got pockets from the paper bags, a great service of both fabric and kraft paper to work on.
- Alternate journal perfect for this box is a mini moleskin journal
