A Celebration Under a Makeshift Tent

We had so much fun celebrating Ms. Vicky's birthday.  What a treat to be with friends!  I was able to be with dear friends and meet some new ones.  We did some flea market/estate shopping, some crafting and then a few of us set up a makeshift tent and went live to share some crafty ideas.  I found some great treasures . . . a vintage Christmas carol music book with cute graphics (I'll be sharing her later), some baby booties, a cool bracelet, some jewelry bits, and a linen tablecloth with a crocheted edge.  All under $15.

The makeshift tent . . . we were on a short time restraint but all within about 45 minutes or less.  The original couple ideas came from a photo shoot in Mollie Makes where the vintage hankies hung beautifully near the tent and a couple shared a sweet tent made of a blanket and sticks on the beach.  From there . . . I was inspired!!!

I had originally wanted to set up my EZ up tent and drape it with lots of lovely vintage material but due to restrictions we couldn't so .  . . of course I improvised.  I had found a beautiful vintage tablecloth for $3.50 with a crocheted edge.  I hung that at a center place in front of her patio and we billowed it out from there.  I thought while I share a little recap I'd also share a few of the ideas I brought about during this tent adventure.

  • Tie vintage hankies together to make a banner.
  • Tie vintage hankies around a Mason jar with ribbon and serve lemonade.  You could also add a charm or even instead of a hankie use lace or material with a name stamped on it.
  • Swirl paint in a mason jar, let dry and add a cute shoelace and an old key around the neck to adorn it.
  • Create party hats.  You provide the inexpensive party hats, paint with gesso, adorn with printed vintage images and add paint and other embellishments (I added a sweet vintage ballerina a top my hat)
  • Everyone painted cute little wooden signs of love for Ms. Vicky
  • The 'Create' banner for many of you who asked is a banner swap I participated in.  I was in charge of all the middle E's.  Others who participated . . . Kim Caldwell, Jenny Doh, Elena Etcheverry (who organized it), Christina Penaflor, and Katie Watson.
  • Hang blankets and vintage tablecloths from door posts or drape over an EZup.  From the center you can hang parasols, Chinese lanterns, pom poms, or anything that suits your fancy.

It was a lovely day of creating and shopping with friends to celebrate a special gal and to share with a group of folks that are doing good . . . Charity Wings TLC.
